A decision by German ISPs not to keep logs on IP addresses would be extremely controversial as the entertainment industry is increasingly demanding from ISPs to disclose the names of suspected file sharers. Courts in both Germany (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/05/17/hamburg_isp_ruling/) and Canada (http://www.corante.com/copyfight/archives/2005/05/19/candian_appeals_court_denies_p2p_subpoenas.php) have recently denied the entertainment industry the right to subpoena the identities of file-sharers.
